Safeway stores are having a buy $40 in select products, get two free movie tickets deal. I went down to Vons to try my hand at the deal. The results aren't fabulous, and most of the select products were snack foods. This reminds me of the reason why I pay for "The List." It took two hours and cost me a few bucks more than I could have spent at Ralph's using the Grocery Game. But we are stocked on school lunches (which continue to be necessary past June for me, since I will be doing summer school), "bring something" items for last minute get togethers and BBQs, and a few medications.
Transaction #1
6 Hallmark greeting cards
24-pack Dasani
4 12-packs Mt Dew, Coke, Sunkist (yeah, if you've been following the blog, it's true, we could open our own vending business with the amount of soda we've gotten lately)
$6.66
Transaction #2
2 EXPENSIVE medications we need but didn't have stocked yet
2 free movie tickets (that we're using tonight to see Indiana Jones on the BIG screen at the Fremont)
$36
Transaction #3
A dozen Sobe Life Waters (my latest beverage addiction)
8-pack Hansen's Natural "Dragonfruit"
2 jars of strawberry & blackberry jam
2 Orville Redenbacher Naturals Micro popcorn - cracked pepper (you must try the Naturals, especially the cracked pepper!)
5 bags of various chips
Ocean Spray Cranergy
24-count of Benadryl
2 lbs of baby carrots
6 Oscar Meyer Deli Creations (Definitely not a Dave Ramsey-approved purchase at $2 per sandwich, but sometimes you just gotta have something EASY for when you wake up late and can't make a lunch before leaving for school. It's still cheaper than hot lunch.)
2 free movie tickets
$54
CVS
12 pack Cottenelle TP
24-ct Excedrin
2 Colgate toothbrushes
4 Sobe LifeWater
1 bag York Peppermint Patties
1 Ghiradelli Intense Dark Cacao bar
$7
Plus I got back $17 in ECBs to use next time
With the money we've saved on various groceries, we're buying organic veggies and fruit, local raised eggs, and higher quality meat, too. Why aren't you signed up for the Grocery Game yet? :)
According to our receipts from January 1 - April 30 (including all stores, not just the "list stores"), we're averaging $50/week for two fairly picky, brand loyal people who refuse to give up their $10/week Naked Juice & Tillamook cheese habit. Sure we could eat on $50 a week without coupons, but I guarantee you it would not be as yummy or as easy.
